*Honey why you calling me so late? It's kinda hard to talk right now.*
Tony grumbled and reached for his phone with that stupid ring-tone. He was grumpy, mainly because he and Pepper had gotten into another fight...For the sixth time this week. The sleeping arrangements were mixed up tonight. Tony in the master bedroom and Pepper downstairs.
The rest of his grumpiness came from looking at the time. Who the hell calls at 4 AM? Wiping tiredly at his eyes, he pressed the green phone icon on his screen, not bothering the look at the caller ID.
“Hello?” He groaned.
*Honey why are you crying? Is everything okay? I gotta whisper 'cause I can't be too loud*
“Tony...” The weak and fragile voice answered him.
He sat up in bed, automatically awake. He glanced over to make sure the door was closed. Even if Pep was downstairs, he still used a hushed tone.
“(Name), what's wrong?” He asked worried.
You sobbed lightly over the phone. “I'm sorry Tony...I just, Ethan was...” Your voice cut off into another sob. You would never know how badly Tony wanted to be there kissing you. But those days between you two were long gone.
It was a rough breakup. It started with an argument that turned explosive. You grabbed you bags, leaving and never looking back.
Eventually, there were apologies, but you two never made a move to get back together. That's when Pepper came in. You were happy for him, you really were. Jealous, yes, but glad he had someone to calm him down after his nightmares.
You began to date again, meeting a businessman man named Ethan. He owned Giligreen Tech, rivals of Stark Industries. But you and Tony maintained your friendship.
Joined at the hip is what the team said.
*Well, my girl's in the next room. Sometimes I wish she was you, I guess we never really moved on*
Tony didn't know about what happened to you when you left S.H.I.E.L.D for the day, never knew what was going on at the disgusting place you were forced to call home.
He missed the days when you were around. Lounging in bed, star gazing on the roof, making out on the kitchen counter, watching romantic comedies and cuddling close on the couch, making him go to the spa with you, you bringing him coffee every morning, and those sweet love notes you left on the counter everyday.
Pepper brought him coffee, (It was always too bland) made him sign things, and pulled him out of bed to go to work.
It wasn't the same.
He didn't feel love between them, of course they loved each other, but it wasn't the same way you and Tony loved each other.
He would wake up, wishing you were next to him. That the (h/c) head was nuzzled into his neck. But every morning, it was gingery blonde.
*It's really good to hear your voice saying my name. It sounds so sweet Coming from the lips of an angel. Hearing those words it makes me weak*
“I wish you were.”
The broken words went straight to his heart. He was pacing the floor at the moment, un-aware of the pair of blue eyes watching him.
“(Name), what happened.”
The line went dead.
The billionaire spun on his heel, going rigid as his girlfriend stared at him. Her face was unreadable. “P-Pepper.” He began. She held her hand up, silencing him.
“Tony, we both know that this was never going to work. Incest is illegal.” She joked.
Tony laughed, they both felt the sister/brother relationship.
“Pepper, I love you, you know that right?” He asked, hugging her. She nodded and smiled. “I love you too idiot, now go. You're practically shedding your skin.” She ordered, pushing him out of the room door.
He still had sweatpants and a dark blue tank-top. Rushing downstairs, he pulled on his sneakers, and grabbed a few things, shoving them into his pocket before jogging out the door. Happy was already outside and Tony smirked.
Pepper and Happy had it going on.
Happy slammed on the gas, arriving at the luxury (not as awesome as Tony's) house in a measly five minutes.
Fishing the emergency key you gave him from his pocket, he quickly unlocked the door. He winced at the sharp cry of pain. He could hear his blood pumping in his ears.
There weren't any lights on, so quickly and quietly, Tony tip-toed up the stairs. Thankful for construction workers, making them noiseless. He knew where his next donation was going.
Upstairs, there was only one light, peaking from under a door. He slid over to it, pressing his ear against it. Soft crying attacked his ears, the same soft crying he heard through the phone.
He loud smack sound of skin connecting made his blood boil. Without thinking, he burst down the door.
The blood drained from his face.
You were curled up in the corner of the room, tears streamed down from your eyes, you were clutching your cheek, bruises decorating your skin. Ethan was poised above you, his arm held back, ready to strike again.
Tony saw red, anger coursed through his body, followed by hatred of Ethan. He acted without second thought.
Suddenly Ethan was being slammed against the wall, Tony punching him in the face relentlessly. He threw Ethan to the ground where he stayed. Immediately, he picked you up bridal style, jogging out of the house. You clung to him, your black, blue and purple arms locked around his neck, face buried into his chest.
Happy was out of the car, opening the doors for you, he just got off the phone nodding to his boss. Tony, still holding you tightly, minding your bruises, slid inside and cradled you closer.
You felt the car lurch forward, you breathed in Tony's sent, calming your breathing. It didn't seem long when the car stopped again and Tony ran up to the tower.
The next hour was a blur. Banner was there and looked you over, doing a wonderful job of patching you up. He was very gentle, Tony still held your hand.
At the moment, your head was in Tony's lap, looking up at him as a Disney movie played in the background.
His thumb rubbed your non-hurt cheek and he leaned down, kissing your forehead ever so softly. Your hand found it's way up to the back of Tony's neck, pulling him in for a proper kiss, which he happily obliged.
There would be tomorrow, when you guys would talk and he would answer your questions about Pepper, when you would press charges on Ethan, when the team would come and visit you, suffocating you in flowers and cards, when you and Tony would be fine, healthy, safe, happy, and most importantly, in love.
